Off to Atlanta: Things to do in ‘Hot-lanta’

All roads lead to Atlanta. This city is one of the largest in the United States and it certainly lives up to the nickname, “Hot-lanta,” because the city is full of hot things to do, places to visit, and people to see. Atlanta dominates the north-central portion of Georgia and if you have ever had to drive through the city, it certainly does seem like every single road in the south leads to this great city.

Big Companies

The city is home to many of the world’s largest corporations. Coca-Cola, Home Depot, Delta Airlines, and UPS make their headquarters in city and surrounding areas. The Hartsfield-Jackson Airfield is also one of the busiest airports in the world. Atlanta is also home to world-class professional athletic teams like the Atlanta Braves, Falcons, and Hawks. The city is also home to many cable network channels after Ted Turner began CNN and TBS. The popular Weather Channel also resides in Atlanta. Many of these large companies offer tours for visitors and one of the top attractions in the city is the World of Coca-Cola where visitors learn about the history of Coca-Cola.

Big City Fun

Atlanta is also home to big city activities. There are plenty of shopping districts in all price ranges from the highest of high end to thrift shops and antique shops. There are also plenty of delicious restaurants from local chefs and many from celebrity chefs who have opened flagship shops in town. The town is also full of cultural centers with classic arts like opera, theater, and symphony performances, as well as newer arts like hip hop centers, modern art museums, and country music performances, too.

Georgia Aquarium

One of the most amazing sites to see in Atlanta is the Georgia Aquarium. This is the largest indoor aquarium in the United States and many people travel to Atlanta to see the aquarium. There are regular attractions as well as special events throughout the year. The museum is an unforgettable experience for people of all ages.

History Comes Alive

When visitors are not touring the museums or enjoying shopping and eating, many visit the historic sites that have defined Atlanta. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s home, Jimmy Carter’s Presidential Museum, and the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum are all in the area and they are offer entertainment and educational opportunities that are unique to the area.

Natural Beauties

One of the other unusual features of Atlanta is the amount of trees. There are a few different skylines in the city that are divided by the trees and rolling hills that make Atlanta a unique town. The city has been recognized by several environmental groups for the fact that trees and green spaces have been a priority. There are several references to peach trees all over the town and Atlanta is home to several nature festivals like the annual Dogwood Festival in April of every year. The three separate skylines are called Downtown, Midtown, and Buckhead and each one is separated by amazing canopies of trees.

You will not be disappointed with a trip to Atlanta, just be sure to schedule enough days to see everything.
